CAVES OF HERCULES

Situated at the Atlantic entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar, Morocco

The Caves of Hercules are natural caverns in the Strait of Gibraltar, located about ten kilometers from Tangier. This reference to the ancient Greek deity is linked to the mythology that locates the Gardens of the Hesperides in Morocco. In these gardens, the three daughters of the Titan Atlas guarded the trees with golden apples, protected by a hundred-headed dragon. During his eleventh labor, Hercules, son of Zeus, killed the dragon and seized the magical fruits that guaranteed immortality. Tired, he is said to have rested in these caves.

Cape Spartel is often mistakenly listed as the northernmost point of Africa.

DAR EL MAKHZEN (TANGIER)

Located in the eastern part of the Kasbah, overlooking the medina and the Strait of Gibraltar.

The Dar al-Makhzen or Sultanate Palace is a historic building and museum in Tangier , Morocco . It was the residence of the sultans of Morocco during their stay in the city. The building was constructed during the reign of Sultan Moulay Ismail in the 17th century on the ruins of the English “Upper Castle”. It was built by Pasha Ahmad ben Ali al-Rifi, general of the Jaysh al-Rifi and semi-autonomous governor of Tangier. Currently, it is used by two museums, the Museum of Moroccan Arts and the Archaeological Museum of Antiquities.

The Perdicaris Park, also known as the Rmilat Forest and formerly as Villa Aidonia or Place of the Nightingales, is a public park covering 70 hectares in the Rmilat neighborhood of Tangier, Morocco. It is located on the northern slopes of the Jebel Kebir hill facing the Strait of Gibraltar, between the Cape Spartel reserve to its west and the Jebel Kebir Royal Palace to its east.

Established as a mission church in 1875, it is the oldest continuous Episcopal/Anglican presence in Fort Worth.
